Continuem amb la segona part de les Business Buzzwords relacionades amb el sector emprenedor perquè no et perdis en cap conversa a la feina. Sovint s’utilitza un argot diferent per a semblar més cool o utilitzem paraules que no són del nostre idioma. Avui dia, la paraula startup ja no sona estranya i la tenim més que assumida, però no deixa de ser una paraula en anglès que utilitzem per a denominar a una empresa de nova creació.
A continuació, et deixem amb la segona part del llistat de Business Buzzwords:
Amb la J
jump the shark
- Significat: quan una empresa o programa aconsegueix un mínim històric, fa una cosa dràstica o una bogeria per mantenir a la gent interessada.
- Exemple: Did you hear that they’ve employed Bertín Osborne to present the show? I hope they’re not jumping the shark there.
Amb la L
a lean startup
- Significat: una pràctica per desenvolupar productes i negocis basada en l’aprenentatge validat (validated learning), obtenint comentaris dels clients de manera ràpida i freqüent.
- Exemple: Dropbox is a great example of a lean startup. It started life as a minimal viable product – a 3 minute screencast showing consumers what Dropbox could do.
lipstick on a pig
- Significat: tractar de fer canvis superficials que no enganyen a ningú.
- Exemple: The new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) has been sold to the general public as a great airplane but is widely acknowledged to be lipstick on a pig by air combat experts.

monetize
- Significat: quan es deixa de proporcionar un producte o servei de forma gratuïta i es comença a cobrar.
- Exemple: Selling apps and subscriptions, and producing multimedia content such as videos and podcasts, are all ways that businesses monetize content.

native advertising
- Significat: és un tipus de publicitat encoberta, generalment online, que coincideix amb la forma i la funció de la plataforma on apareix.
- Exemple: We see a lot of native ads in social media feeds. It’s clever because they don’t really look like ads and they just blend into the media format.

push the envelope
- Significat: provar els límits del que és possible o probar idees radicals.
- Exemple: Our market demands that we keep pushing the envelope.

results-oriented
- Significat: un enfocament orientat a resultats està enfocat a aconseguir metes.
- Exemple: As a company, we made a change from doing it the way we’ve always done it to being results-oriented. We are much more efficient and effective now.
rightsizing
- Significat: convertir alguna cosa a un tamany apropiat o òptim, normalment relacionat amb el personal.
- Exemple: It’s a lot more positive that we are rightsizing rather than downsize. Rightsizing is done proactively whereas downsizing is done retroactively to fix a problem.

seed funding
- Significat: la quantitat de diners que s’obté a l’inici d’un projecte, per demostrar que funciona i que pot créixer.
- Exemple: Seed funding took our project out of the idea stage and onto the market.
scale up
- Significat: com un es planteja fer créixer la seva empresa respecte tamany, mercat i demografia.
- Exemple: In order to grow, we’re going to have to scale up our capacity.
startup
- Significat: empresa emergent.
- Exemple: Startups focus on disrupting markets and driving top-line revenue at a fast pace. Otherwise, you’re just a small business which sets its goals on long-term, stable growth in an existing market.
soft landing
- Significat: un llançament controlat del negoci en un nou mercat amb menys risc i menys costos.
- Exemple: Most startups don’t have particularly successful beginnings so a soft landing to makes a less than ideal outcome as good as possible.
serial entrepreneur
- Significat: emprenedor/a addicte/a a llançar una startup i passar a la següent.
- Exemple: High profile serial entrepreneurs are Steve Jobs (Apple, NeXT, Pixar, Apple) and Elon Musk (Zip2, PayPal, SpaceX, Tesla, SolarCity…).

think outside the box
- Significat: pensar de forma creativa i lliure.
- Exemple: In an age of powerful algorithms, thinking outside the box is, for now, one thing that machines can’t do that well.

a unicorn
- Significat: una altra manera de nomenar a una empresa valorada en més de mil milions de dòlars.
- Exemple: I guess those companies are called unicorns because they are highly desirable but extremely difficult to obtain.

value add
- Significat: alguna cosa que agrega valor, benefici o millora.
- Exemple: I think your ghost blogging service will make a great “value add” to a marketing agency’s offerings.

wannapreneur
- Significat: una persona que té moltes idees per crear una startup però no té, encara, cap en marxa.
- Exemple: All entrepreneurs were once wannapreneurs, but most wannapreneurs will not become entrepreneurs.
